Unit Theme

Origami

I chose this theme because i find the precision and skill required for Origami fascinating. I was originally going to  focus on animals, flowers and birds; typical origami sculptures. But i after making a few of these i soon got bored and wanted to extend my theme even further.

Abstract origami
I discovered abstract origami sculptures, and wanted to explore these in more detail as i find them more interesting and have a wider range of possibilities than paper animals.

There are 3 types of abstract Origami:

Modular Origami - Using more than 1 sheet of paper to create more complex structures

Tessellate Origami - Using repeated patterns to create pieces with no gaps.

Mathematical and Computational Origami - Science behind crease patterns.

I am going to look into creating my own sculptures, and then photographing them in different ways, and then explore other folding techniques.

These are some pieces I will use to inspire my own experimentation.
